Fuengirola Adventure Golf
🚗 Approx. 15–20 min drive
A fun adventure mini-golf course in Fuengirola that works well for both children and adults. The course is easy to enjoy but still competitive enough for the whole family. There is also a bar with food and drinks. A very easy activity for a couple of hours when you want a break from the beach.
Fuengirola Adventure Golf is a relaxed mini-golf outing that works well for children, teenagers and adults. You normally do not need to reserve a tee time in advance – you can simply turn up and play when there is space. The course is designed as adventure golf, so it has more variety than a very traditional mini-golf course while remaining easy for the whole family to enjoy. The Golfshak Bar serves drinks, snacks and meals before or after your round. It is a good choice when you want a couple of easy hours away from the beach or something simple to do in the late afternoon. Its Fuengirola location also makes it easy to combine with shopping, the seafront or dinner in town.
A beautifully designed wildlife park in central Fuengirola with a strong focus on nature and biodiversity. You can see animals from several regions of the world and there are daily activities. It is especially good with children, while the landscaping and habitats make it enjoyable for adults too.
BIOPARC is right in the centre of Fuengirola and is much more immersive than a traditional zoo. The park is built around naturalistic tropical habitats inspired by Africa, Southeast Asia, the Indo-Pacific and Madagascar, so you walk through landscaped environments rather than rows of cages. Species include gorillas, orangutans, tigers, lemurs, pygmy hippos and many lesser-known rainforest animals. The park has a strong conservation focus and runs daily activities such as guided visits, keeper encounters and visits to the Madagascar area. An average visit takes around three hours, although it is easy to stay longer. It is one of the best family attractions close to the holiday homes and is equally enjoyable for adults visiting without children.
An easy-to-visit aquarium right by Puerto Marina in Benalmádena. It includes underwater zones, rays, otters and many different sea creatures. It combines perfectly with a walk around the marina and lunch by the water. A good choice on a very hot day or when the weather is less than perfect.
Puerto Marina · Benalmádena🚗 Approx. 25–30 min drive
SEA LIFE sits directly beside Puerto Marina in Benalmádena and is a manageable aquarium that is easy to combine with the marina itself. The route takes you through several marine environments with sharks, rays, sea turtles, seahorses, octopus and otters. The Jurassic Tunnel lets you walk beneath sharks and other sea creatures, while Ray Island and the digital bioluminescent experience add extra variety. Different feedings and short talks take place during the day, including sessions with otters, rays and sharks. The aquarium works well for a two- or three-hour visit and is especially useful on very hot days or when the weather is unsettled. Afterwards, Puerto Marina has plenty of places for lunch, ice cream or a walk by the boats.
A marine park in Benalmádena with penguins, sea lions and other animal experiences. It is not a huge park, so it fits nicely into half a day. There are different presentations and optional special experiences. It can easily be combined with Parque de la Paloma or Benalmádena Marina.
Selwo Marina is in Benalmádena close to Parque de la Paloma and is a compact marine and wildlife park that fits comfortably into half a day. It is particularly known for penguins and sea lions, but there are other animals and educational presentations throughout the day. Depending on availability, extra experiences can also be booked with penguins, sea lions, giant tortoises and monkeys. Because the park is not huge, it is manageable with younger children and easy to combine with other Benalmádena attractions. Parque de la Paloma, the seafront or Puerto Marina all work well afterwards. Check the daily programme before visiting, as presentations and activities can change.
The cable car takes you from Benalmádena up towards Monte Calamorro, with fantastic coastal views on a clear day. At the top there are viewpoints and walking trails, and birds-of-prey presentations are held at selected times. A great mix of scenery, nature and a little adventure without a long drive.
The Benalmádena Cable Car links the town with the summit of Mount Calamorro, around 720 metres above sea level. The ride itself takes roughly 15 minutes and already gives impressive views over the Málaga coastline and the Mediterranean. At the top there are viewpoints and walking trails, so you can choose anything from a short stroll to a longer walk depending on the weather. On a clear day the views are excellent and the mountain atmosphere feels very different from the coast below. Birds-of-prey presentations with species such as owls, vultures and hawks are also held on selected days; this activity is operated separately and is not necessarily included in the cable-car ticket. It works very well as a half-day outing, especially outside the hottest midday hours.
A tropical butterfly park near Benalmádena Pueblo with hundreds of butterflies flying freely around you. It does not take a full day, making it ideal to combine with the old town, the Stupa or Castillo de Colomares. Especially good with younger children and for a relaxed morning.
The butterfly park near Benalmádena Pueblo is now called Monowa and is built around a large tropical garden where more than a thousand butterflies can fly freely among waterfalls, flowers and dense vegetation. The butterflies come from different parts of the world and visitors can see several stages of their life cycle. The park also features exotic birds, fish, moths and stick insects. It is a calm, easy visit and works particularly well with younger children or when you want a shorter activity. It sits close to the large Buddhist Stupa and can easily be combined with Benalmádena Pueblo or Castillo de Colomares. A very pleasant choice for a relaxed morning.
A larger wildlife and nature park near Estepona that works well as a full-day trip. It has large areas, many different animals and optional safari-style experiences. Wear comfortable shoes and allow several hours. A good choice when you want a proper day out.
Selwo Aventura near Estepona is a large wildlife and nature park that works best as a proper full-day excursion. The terrain is more open and hilly than a traditional zoo, and visitors move between large animal areas featuring species from Africa and elsewhere. Suspension bridges are part of the route, including a bridge of around 65 metres over the lake area, together with several viewpoints. Extra activities include the Serengeti Safari, a guided experience that brings you closer to animals such as zebras, rhinos, hippos and antelope. There is quite a lot of walking and some changes in elevation, so comfortable shoes are useful. Alleow most of the day and check the programme and optional activities before leaving.
One of the most unusual caves in the area and easy to reach from Mijas. Cueva del Tesoro is near Rincón de la Victoria and is known as a rare marine cave. Inside you walk through impressive chambers and formations, offering a very different experience from the usual coastal attractions. Great for a half-day trip.
Cueva del Tesoro in Rincón de la Victoria is one of only three known caves in the world with a marine origin and the only one of its kind in Europe. It combines geology, archaeology and local legends; remains from the Palaeolithic and Bronze Age as well as rock art have been found here. The visitor route passes through several underground chambers shaped by water over an immense period of time. Most of the visit is considered low difficulty, although there are several stair sections and only the first chamber can be reached by lift for visitors with reduced mobility. The visit uses an audio guide that can be downloaded to your own phone, so headphones are useful. It makes a very good half-day trip, perhaps combined with lunch on the coast in Rincón de la Victoria.
The Nerja Caves are among Andalusia’s most impressive caves, with huge chambers, stalactites and stalagmites. You can combine the visit with Nerja town, the Balcón de Europa and the beaches of the eastern Costa del Sol. It makes an excellent full-day trip because both the cave and the town are worth seeing.
Nerja Cave near Maro is one of Spain’s most impressive caves and is important both geologically and archaeologically. The cave system extends for almost five kilometres and contains vast chambers filled with stalactites, stalagmites, columns and many other limestone formations created over millions of years. Humans used the cave for tens of thousands of years, leaving an exceptionally important prehistoric record; the cave art itself is not open to normal visitors for conservation reasons. The visitor area is well organised, and the cave is easy to combine with Nerja town, the Balcón de Europa and Maro. That makes it ideal for a full-day excursion. Lukd shoes with good grip are recommended, and remember that the underground temperature may feel cooler than the coast outside.
One of the most spectacular nature experiences in the region. The route follows the gorge on walkways that in places hang high above the river. Tickets should be booked well in advance and normal good mobility is required. If you enjoy scenery and nature, this is one of the day trips you will remember.
Caminito del Rey is one of the great nature experiences in Málaga province. The official route is one-way from Ardales towards Álora/El Chorro and passes through narrow gorges, forest paths and the famous boardwalks, which in places hang more than 100 metres above the river. The complete outing, including access and exit paths, covers about eight kilometres and normally takes three to four hours. A helmet is provided at the control point. It is not mountaineering, but visitors should be reasonably mobile and comfortable with heights. Parking, shuttle buses or trains also need to be factored into the day, so arrive with plenty of time. Tickets often sell out, making advance booking strongly advisable. It takes up much of the day, but the scenery and dramatic gorges make it very memorable.
Ronda is ideal for a full-day trip. The town sits dramatically above the Tajo gorge, with Puente Nuevo as the classic highlight. You will also find Arab baths, old streets, viewpoints and plenty of good lunch spots. Go early and leave time simply to walk through the historic centre.
Ronda is one of Andalusia’s most dramatically situated towns and easily deserves a full day. Puente Nuevo crosses the deep Tajo gorge and is the natural centrepiece of a visit, but there is much more to see than the bridge itself. In the historic quarter you can visit the Arab Baths, Palacio de Mondragón, Casa del Gigante and old streets with wide mountain views. Ronda also has a strong wine tradition, with several wineries around the town if you want to add a gastronomic element to the day. It is best to arrive early, park and explore the centre on foot. There are plenty of good lunch options, and Ronda can be combined with Setenil de las Bodegas if you are happy with a long day out.
The famous white village where many houses and restaurants are built directly into and beneath the rock. Streets such as Calle Cuevas del Sol and Cuevas de la Sombra make it very different from other pueblos blancos. It can be combined with Ronda on the same day if you start early.
Setenil de las Bodegas is one of Andalusia’s most unusual white villages. Rather than simply building on top of the rock, many houses, cafés and restaurants are built directly into and beneath enormous rock overhangs. The best-known streets are Cuevas del Sol and Cuevas de la Sombra, where the rock itself forms a natural roof above sections of the street and buildings. The village is fairly compact, so a couple of hours is usually enough to walk through the centre, take photographs and stop for lunch or tapas. The streets can be steep, so comfortable shoes are helpful. Setenil combines very well with Ronda: start early and visit both if you want a full day in the mountains.
A completely different day trip where you quickly move from Spain into a British atmosphere. Most visitors go up the Rock and visit the Nature Reserve, home to the famous Barbary macaques. There is also Main Street, views towards Africa, caves and historic military tunnels. Remember valid travel identification.
Gibraltar is a very different full-day excursion where British history, Mediterranean nature and views towards Africa are packed into a small area. Most visitors head into the Upper Rock Nature Reserve to see the famous Barbary macaques, St Michael’s Cave, viewpoints and several historic military sites. There are also marked nature trails such as the Mediterranean Steps and themed routes through the reserve. Down in town, Main Street offers shops and cafés with a distinctly British atmosphere that contrasts with Spain just across the border. Alleow extra time for the border and parking, and always check current entry requirements before travelling. It is best treated as a full-day trip, particularly if you want to see both the Rock and the town centre.
An impressive natural area filled with unusual limestone formations that almost look like another landscape. There are several marked walking routes of different lengths, and the trip can be combined with Antequera. Perfect for mountain air, views and an active day without doing Caminito del Rey.
El Torcal is one of Andalusia’s most distinctive natural landscapes. Over millions of years the limestone has been shaped into towers, layers and almost sculptural formations, giving parts of the landscape an almost unreal appearance. Marked walking routes of different lengths make the area suitable both for families wanting a shorter walk and for visitors who want to spend several hours on the trails. On clear days the views are wide and impressive, and the temperature is often a little cooler than on the coast. There is a visitor centre, which is a useful place to start and choose the route that best suits your group. The trip combines very well with lunch or a visit to Antequera. Good shoes, sun protection and water are strongly recommended.
The classic white mountain village just above the coast. You will find small streets, viewpoints, shops, restaurants and a lovely atmosphere in the evening. It is easy to visit without planning a full day and works very well for lunch, dinner or a couple of hours walking around.
Mijas Pueblo is only a short drive into the hills and is one of the easiest spontaneous outings from the holiday homes. The old town is made up of whitewashed streets with Moorish origins, small squares, flowers, shops and viewpoints with panoramic Mediterranean views. Classic sights include the Virgen de la Peña sanctuary, the oval bullring, the Inmaculada Concepción church and the remains of the old Moorish wall with gardens and viewpoints. The village also has small museums and art collections, including CAC Mijas. Mijas is particularly pleasant in the late afternoon and evening when the temperature drops. You do not need to plan a full day – a couple of hours, lunch or dinner is often just right.
Guided quad tours around Mijas and the hills behind the Costa del Sol. You can choose tours of around 1, 2 or 3 hours, with a safety briefing before departure. A great option for adults and older children who want more adventure and scenery than a normal sightseeing trip.

One of the most scenic water activities on the Costa del Sol. Paddle along the Nerja and Maro cliffs past small coves, sea caves and the famous Maro waterfall, which drops directly towards the Mediterranean. Guided tours and self-guided rental options are available depending on provider and sea conditions.

Pueblo López is a pleasant Fuengirola neighbourhood with a different feel from the busy seafront. The restaurant is a good choice for a quieter dinner where you can settle in and enjoy the evening. It particularly suits couples or friends looking for a classic restaurant outing. Take a short walk through the area beforehand, check the current menu and book if you have a particular evening in mind.
A smaller and highly regarded restaurant in Fuengirola. A good dinner choice if you prefer somewhere more local and personal rather than a large tourist-oriented restaurant.
La Puerta Verde is a smaller Fuengirola restaurant suggestion for gæster seeking a more personal setting. It offers a change from the larger places near the harbour and seafront. Alleow time for an unhurried dinner and perhaps an evening walk in town. Smaller restaurants may change their menu and hours, so check current details and book a table before visiting.
Tapas and sharing plates in Mijas Pueblo. An easy recommendation if you want to combine a walk through the old town with lunch or an early dinner in a pleasant setting.
Pampa Tablas y Tapas makes a good stop during a visit to Mijas Pueblo. Order tapas and sharing plates so everyone at the table can try a few different things. Leave time to explore the whitewashed streets and viewpoints before or after eating. The meal turns a quick village visit into a relaxed half-day outing. Check opening times and reserve if you want to eat at a specific time.
